Year of Sanderson Unboxing: Mistborn

Box: Mistborn
Company: Dragonsteel
Collectible: Enamel Pin, Plushie
Value for loot: Great

This month the Year of Sanderson brings us loot direct from Scadrial! This box includes items inspired by both the first and second Mistborn Eras. I received this box today, May 11th, which is really nice to receive a monthly box in such a prompt manner.

Curious about Mistborn? Check out my reviews of the books!

What’s in the box?!

  • Mistborn Era 1 Bookends
  • Reversible Soonie Pup
  • Mistborn Era 1 Sticker Pack
  • Cosmere Character Pin – Waxillium Ladrian

Favorite Item(s)?
This was a stunning box of great Mistborn items. The bookends are my favorite because they’re super useful and good looking. The spired towers on the bookends along with the Ascendant Warrior is so well done. You can see them next to some hardcovers for scale. I especially appreciate that these were transported flat and carefully packed. It took a little bit to assemble them, very carefully, but nothing is bent funny as has happened in the past when I’ve received bookends from book boxes.

The Soonie pup is a close second favorite and a delightful mix of era 1 and 2. Soonie pups are advertised in one of the broadsheets (think newspapers) in Era 2, but are inspired by Tensoon from Era 1. One of the really cool things about the series is that Era 1 is set 300 years before Era 2 meaning the events of those stories make up the historical foundation of the world. There will be more stories in the same world and I am here for it!

The stickers are a great mix of Mistborn Era 1 characters! In the photo, from left to right you have The Lord Ruler, Tindwyl, Sazed, Kelsier, Vin, Tensoon, Valette and Elend.

The pin this month is #005 Waxillium Ladrian from Mistborn Era 2. He’s the 4th pin I’ve received now since the April book is still being produced and therefore the boxes haven’t shipped yet.

Final Thoughts?
I really like this box and will definitely use these lovely Mistborn items. The bookends are an extra special touch and will look great with my Sanderson collection! The question is, do I put them with the leatherbounds or the paperbacks?! (I’m leaning towards the paperbacks since the leatherbounds stand well on their own, but we will see!)

What is the Year of Sanderson?
2023, aka Year of Sanderson, is the “All In” tier of loot from that record shattering Kickstarter where Brandon Sanderson admitted he wrote not 1, but 4 books in secret.
With the Year of Sanderson, I will receive 12 boxes from Dragonsteel full of delightful loot!
4 boxes will continue a new book (1 for each secret project) and 8 boxes will be full of Sanderson-ific swag. Each book is to be a bit of an “artist’s showcase” with the chosen artist having a huge part in the design and art of the story. Each month there’s also a free download available, related to the month’s box!
Team Dragonsteel is working super hard with all the logistics of this widely successful Kickstarter and keeping us informed along the way!
One of the “thank you gifts” from the kickstarter (which they did instead of stretch goals) was to pay the additional customs and import fees which really makes a huge difference for me and how those fees work here in Sweden.

Year of Sanderson Unboxing: The Cytoverse

Box: The Cytoverse
Company: Dragonsteel
Collectible: Enamel Pin, Playing Cards, Figurine
Value for loot: Great

Have you entered the Cytoverse? Don’t worry, Doomslug is your friend. The Skyward Series and Skyward Flight novellas make up this world. The fourth and final Skyward book releases November 2023 and I cannot wait!

What’s in the box?!

  • Premium M-Bot Model
  • Doomslug Go Fish Playing Cards
  • Doomslug Silicone Mold
  • Cosmere Character Pin – Steris, Mistborn Era 2

Art director, Isaac Stewart

Favorite Item(s)?
I really loved all the items in this box. The M-Bot model is really sleek and nice looking. It’s a perfect addition to my shelf.

The playing cards are super cute and colorful. They are regular playing cards but also come with some Cytoverse variants of Go-Fish.

If you’ve read my other unboxing posts, you’re maybe not surprised to hear that I really like enamel pins, especially chibi sized ones. This Steris pin is super adorable and reminds me of a certain scene with her, Wax and Marasi.

My only complaint about this Doomslug silicone mold is that I want at least one more so I can at least make 8 items at a time. I’ll start with 4 for now and see if there’s a good way to pick up another one!

This month’s free download is an amigurumi (crochet) pattern for making Doomslug! I am a little out of practice with amigurumi but will definitely give this a go.

Final Thoughts?
This was a great box full of Cytoverse fun. Doomslug is a favorite character of mine, so it is really fun to have a lot of Doomslug themed items!

Year of Sanderson Unboxing: Hoid

Box: Hoid
Company: Dragonsteel
Collectible: Enamel Pin
Value for loot: Good

Hoid wasn’t originally going to be the first box shipped, but it was also kind of fitting that he was first out. He is Hoid after all. This box includes no less than 125 Hoids! Hold onto your Hoid, and check out these contents!

What’s in the box?!

  • Hoid for President T-Shirt
  • Hoid Mousepad
  • Wit Sticky notes – 2 designs
  • HOID Gold Seals – 2 designs
  • Cosmere Character enamel Pin – Hoid

Favorite Item(s)?
I’m a sucker for enamel pins, especially chibi ones, especially chibi Cosmere ones.

The shirt is also a really nice item. I have a few Dragonsteel shirts and they’re very nice quality, as is this one. The fit is as expected, standard unisex sizes.

The mousepad is also very nice but I haven’t decided if I’ll bring it to the office or if I will just use it for travel. I have the map of Roshar playmat as my mousepad at home or I would already be using this one.

The stickers and post it notes have such fun designs. I’ve used a few of the sticky notes so far and they work as expected. I haven’t actually used the seals yet, but they are very shiny.

This month’s free download is a set of HOID libs (think mad libs) to use for your entertainment.

Final Thoughts?
This was a nice Hoid-full box! Overall I think it was a good value for the cost of the box via the Kickstarter. Shipping to Sweden is always a stretch, but I’m still glad I decided to go for the swag boxes. It definitely helps that Dragonsteel is covering the additional customs fees.
